Abstract

Background: The issue of violence against children in schools is a global problem related to human rights. High school students are students aged 15-18 years. Those ages when psychological of child changes such as emotional instability that may lead to violence. The curriculum of high school students focuses more on theory than practice. Therefore, less psychomotor aspects are learned, which is different with vocational students. So that, possible forms of violence can also be different. Objective: To determine the characteristic of violence against children in schools at high school in Semarang.Methods: This was a descriptive study using cross sectional design. Respondents in this study were high school students of class XI in Semarang. Subjects who had bee chosen were given informed consent. Then they were interviewed using a questionnaire. Data was collected, processed and described in graphic form.Results: The results showed that 329 respondents (90%) said they had been injured at school. The percentages of the violence's characteristics were 227 respondents (70%) had physical violence, where mild physical violence 17% and severe 83%. 288 respondents (90%) had psychological violence, where mild psychological violence 45%, moderate 53%, and severe 2%. 49 respondents (15%) had sexual violence, where mild 49% and severe 51%. 111 respondents (30%) had social violence, where mild 18%, moderate 79%, and severe 3%.Conclusions: The number of violence against children in high school in Semarang is high. The prevalence of psychological violence got the highest percentage compared to physical, sexual, and social violence
