Taking the Lead: EU mediation interventions assessed in Iran and Lebanon

Abstract

The chapter focuses on perceptions and opinions held by Lebanese and Iranian elites, civil society organizations and the media on Europe and the EU. Through elite interviews, Delphi surveys and discourse analysis, the authors show the extent to which Europe is perceived as an economic bloc more than a political power, underperforming in international affairs and unable to forge an autonomous path in its foreign policy
