Door kleinere winstmarges en steeds grotere beperkingen op markten en productprijzen is besluitvorming in de agrarische sector in ontwikkelingslanden niet alleen belangrijker maar ook uitdagender geworden. Het doel van dit onderzoek is “het ontwikkelen, implementeren en evalueren van een decision enhancement studio op het gebied van markten en prijzen voor boeren in Oeganda”. De belangrijkste onderzoeksvraag luidt: “hoe kunnen Oegandese boeren hun besluitvorming aangaande markten en prijzen verbeteren?”Op basis van verkennend veldonderzoek en literatuurstudies is een artefact ontwikkeld in de vorm van een Farmers’ Decision Enhancement Studio (FDES), die bestaat uit een Market Identification Suite, a Price Determination Suite en een Communication Suite. De studio met bijbehorende services is geprototyped en geïmplementeerd in de Oegandese districten Gulu en Soroti. De implementatie vond voornamelijk plaats aan de hand van open source tools en van de beschikbare middelen en capaciteiten van de boeren. Er werd een open source sms gateway gebruikt om de studioprestaties te verifiëren en te testen. De resultaten laten zien dat de boeren die voor uitdagingen op het gebied van markt- en prijsbesluiten staan, baat hebben bij de studio.Equitable access to markets is the desire of every farmer in both the developing and developed economies, and Uganda in particular. However, due to the unpredictable, uncertain and risky conditions of agricultural markets, farmers find it difficult to operate in today’s market place, hence the rationale for this research. The overall objective of this study was to develop, implement and evaluate a farmers’ market and price decision enhancement studio for farmers in Uganda. Similarly, our main research question was, “how can market and product price decisions of farmers in Uganda be enhanced”. Both results from literature review and exploration field studies indicate that, among others, farmers are mainly involved in market identification and price determination decisions. Further to this, a number of contextual factors influence the way farmers make these decisions. Consequently, a Farmers’ Market and Price Decision Enhancement Studio (FDES) was developed. The studio comprises of three suites; Market Identification Suite, Price Determination Suite and the Communication suite. In particular, the studio is created to facilitate collaboration between individual farmers, between farmers and buyers, by enabling the fusion of people, process and technology. Through its set of technology suites and services, the studio is designed to support collaboration, decision making, and capturing and disseminating relevant information between market participants and other stakeholders. As a result, an environment is created by the studio to enable farmers’ market and price decision making agility. Evaluation reveals that, the studio is useful and usable in regard to the farmers’ market identification and price determination tasks
