La participation de la Belgique à Eurotransplant

Abstract

The Eurotransplant Association was created in 1967 by Belgium, The Netherlands and West Germany. In the following years, other countries decided to join the association, which in 1969 reached the geographical extension that it now has by including Austria, France, the United Kingdom, the Scandinavian countries, and Switzerland. The objectives of Eurotransplant are to favor the exchange of organs for extremely histocompatible patients. Although meant in fact for renal transplants, an average of 5 to 6 marrow grafts, 1 or 2 skin grafts and about 10 transfusions of leukocytes or of known genotype plaquettes are performed every year through its intermediary.
