War and oligarchic State emergence in Latin America: Re-reading Fernando López-Alves y Miguel Ángel Centeno throughout the political consequences of the Pacific War (1879-1883) in Bolivia and Perú

Abstract

En este artículo nos proponemos indagar acerca de las relaciones recíprocas que existieron entre la guerra y la formación del Estado oligárquico en América Latina. Para ello, revisaremos las ideas de dos investigadores -el filósofo y politólogo Fernando López-Alves y el sociólogo Miguel Ángel Centeno- a partir de la Guerra del Pacífico, desarrollada entre Chile, Bolivia y Perú durante 1879-1883. El análisis comparado de sus consecuencias políticas en Bolivia y Perú, nos permitirá reafirmar o poner en discusión algunas hipótesis de los autores, intentando replantear las vinculaciones entre guerra y Estado a partir de un cruce interdisciplinario entre la sociología, las ciencias políticas y la historia.In this article we aim to address about the existing reciprocal relationships between the war and the oligarchic State formation in Latin America. To that end, we will go through the ideas of two researchers -the philosopher and political scientist Fernando López-Alves and the sociologist Miguel Ángel Centeno- throughout the Pacific War, developed between Chile, Bolivia y Perú during 1879- 1883. The comparative analysis of its political consequences in Bolivia and Perú, will allow us to reaffirm or submit to discussion some hypotesis of the authors, in order to reconsider connections between war and State from a interdisciplinary approach between sociology, political sciences and history.Fil: Margarucci, Ivanna.
