Its goal is to promote tyre recycling as a sustainable and com-petitive means to re-use, recover and recycle post-consumer tyres as a principal means of diverting them from landfi lls.ARGO works closely with national, regional and local Government offi ces and agen-cies as well as with research and development institutions in the public and private sectors. Its primary activities include: development of data bases on arisings and use of post-consumer tyre, preparation of technical information, updating on legislation and government requirements, and providing a forum for the exchange of experi-ences and information among recycling professional and other interested parties.www.consorzioargo.itETRAThe European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA), was created in 1994. Today, with over 200 menbers and affi liate organisation in each of the Member States, ETRA represents tyre recyclers at European and international levels and is recognised by the European Commission, Parliament, and the United Nations through the UNEP, UNOP and Basel Convention. Through is national affi liates, ETRA provides the Eu-ropean Waste Topic Centre.ETRA works closely with allied industries and research institutions to develop com-mercially, environmentally and economically viable markets for recycled tyre materi-als and applications. ETRA facilitated the development of European standards for the preparation and use of post-consumer tyre materials.www.etra-eu.orgD.I.T.S.The Department of Hydraulics, Transportation and Roads (DTS), is one of the largest of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, and includes the fi elds  of Environmental and Civil Engineering with a staff of more than 50 Professors and Researchers. For more than two decades, the Road Materials Laboratoy has accepted the challenge of using recycled materials in civil engineering and environmental rehabilitation proj-ects. The faculty and staff have developed special expertise in the fi eld of road con-struction.The Road Materials Laboratory has the led the way in-depth investigations about the recovery of aggregates from construction and demolition waste, ash from incinera-tion, glass, milled bituminous conglomerates, industrial mud.
