Dossier monográfico: Puesta en escena y escenarios en la diplomacia del mundo
romano[ES] Durante los últimos siglos de la República, Roma recibió un gran número de
rehenes y prisioneros de guerra. Los rehenes eran parte de las negociaciones diplomáticas entre Roma y sus enemigos y servían como garantía para el cumplimiento de los acuerdos postbélicos, mientras que los prisioneros de guerra eran consecuencia de las victorias en el campo
de batalla. Aunque el "status" legal de los dos grupos era diferente, el camino que siguieron desde sus lugares de origen hasta su destino final bajo el control romano tuvo importantes similitudes.
Fueron arrestados, llevados a Roma y confinados en un lugar decretado por el Senado. El artículo sigue el rastro de estos rehenes y prisioneros de guerra que llegaron a Roma durante los dos últimos siglos de la República y pretende ofrecer una nueva visión sobre las condiciones en que fueron retenidos.[EN] During the last centuries of the Republic, Rome received great amount of
hostages and prisoners of war. The hostages were part of the diplomatic negotiations between the Romans and their enemies and served as assurances for the postwar arrangements, while the prisoners of war were consequence of their victories in the battlefield. Although the legal
"status" of both groups was different, the way they have to follow from their homeland to their final destination under Roman rule has important similarities. They were put under arrest, lead to Rome and confined in a place decreed by the Senate. This article follows the path of those hostages and prisoners of war that arrived at Rome in the last two centuries
of the Republic and pretends to offer a new view about the conditions in which they were detained
