В личном фонде доктора исторических наук, профессора Уральского университета есть письма от профессора Токийского университета коммерции Ватанабэ Кинъити и Ямамото Тэруюки, аспиранта Университета Хоккайдо. Письма содержат поздравления с различными праздниками и просьбы прислать литературу. Письма изящно оформлены, содержат текст на ангийском, французском и японском языках. В статье дан анализ 1960–1970 гг. – начального этапа развития японской византинистики. Авторы считают, что «алмазное десятилетие» пробудило в Японии интерес к тысячелетнему успешному опыту Восточной Римской империи в создании сильного и богатого государства, способного отражать самые жестокие вызовы собственной безопасности. На первом этапе своего развития японские исследователи использовали достижения советской византистики, проявляя особый интерес к иконоборчеству – яркому и яростному периоду истории империи, находящему параллели в японском средневековье. Статья «пионера японской византинистики» Ватанабэ Кинъити была опубликована в сборнике «Античная древность и средние века» в 1973 г. Этот сборник был издан в честь юбилея доктора исторических наук, профессора М. Я. Сюзюмова. Профессор Ватанабэ начал активную переписку с зарубежными византинистами, знакомился с концепциями византийской истории. Он также проанализировал законодательный статус сельской общины и представил теорию государственных финансов. Его интересы были сосредоточены на проблемах аграрной истории: от «Земледельческого закона» до патрониция на Ниле.The article is devoted to the important problem – the analyses of foreign scientific contacts by the famous Soviet Byzantinist M. Ja. Sjuzjumov. There are letters from Watanabe Kin-ichi Professor of the Tokyo University of Commerce and the Yamamoto Teruyuki graduate student of the Hokkaido University kept in the personal fund (State Archive of the Sverdlovsk region. F. R-802) of the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Ural University. The letters contained congratulations on various holidays and requests to send literature. The letters are designed elegantly. Text wrote in English, French and Japanese. The article was provided an analysis of the initial stage to development of Japanese Byzantine studies, 1960–1970 years. The authors believes that the “Diamond Decade” awakened in Japan an interest in the thousand-year successful experience of the Eastern Roman Empire. This expirience on creation a strong state and its security. At the first, Japanese researchers used the achievements of Soviet Byzantine studies. Privatly, they interested Iconoclasm, a bright and furious period in the history of the Empire, which finds parallels in the Japanese Middle Ages. The article by “Pioneer of Japanese Byzantine studies” Watanabe Kin-ichi was published in the journal “Classical antiquity and Middle Ages” in 1973. This periodical was editored in honoria of the anniversary of the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor M. Ja. Sjuzjumov. Professor Watanabe began an active correspondence with foreign Byzantine scholars, he suggested with the concepts of Byzantine history. He analyzed the legislative status of the rural community and presented the theory of public finance also.
