Operações de memória e identidade étnica: a musealização da imigração alemã no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

The objective is to discuss the German immigration museums in Rio Grandedo Sul as places of memory. As spatial area, working with a sample ofinstitutions located in different state colonization zones. Museums aredynamic spaces for the formulation of cultural heritage of their communitiesand operating in the field of memory and taking these spaces as places ofmemory, where the community elects its symbols and their memories arematerialized and begin to store representations of own social group thatproduced them. The study refers to three spaces: the Museum Visconde deSão Leopoldo, located in São Leopoldo; the Municipal Museum AdolfoEvaldo Lindenmeyer in Sapiranga; and the Anthropological MuseumDirector Pestana, located in Ijuí. We alert especially for expography ofmuseums, therefore, convey and disseminate representations of ethnicidentity linked to the German immigration in Southern Brazil
