Abstract

: Tourism development is one of the key sectors of Indonesia, which have good value and profits for local economic development in the global era. Community involvement in the development of tourism is often questionable in terms of its development impact in the local community. This study was conducted to analyze the level of knowledge of local tourism and community involvement in tourism development Pulau Rupat Utara. A total of 208 respondents from three villages of Kampung Tanjung provide feedback via questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics used in data analysis. Results found no significant difference for community participation in tourism development on the Pulau Rupat between men and female. However, there is a positive and significant relationship between the levels of knowledge of tourism with community participation. This indicates that Pulau Rupat has a bright potential in the tourism sector for its rich natural resources. Keywords : knowledge, community involvement, tourism developmen
