Karakteristik Pemotongan Ortogonal Kering Paduan Titanium Ti6Al4V Menggunakan Pahat Karbida

Abstract

In this study, titanium alloy Ti6Al4V was cut using carbide tool (WC-Co) for the purpose of studying the orthogonal dry cutting characteristic on the material. The insert carbide tool was mounted on tool holder and having rake angle (g) of 0o and 30o. There were 3 levels of cutting speed (Vc) of 15, 30, and 60 m/min and feed (f) 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm/tooth selected as the cutting conditions in this study. The results of study show that tool with rake angle of 30o experiences catastrophic failure soon after cutting length of 1000 mm at all cutting conditions. For tool with rake angle of 0o, cutting can be carried out at all cutting conditions and it is found that cutting force tends to decrease when the increasing of cutting speed at feed of 0.1 mm but in opposite when feed is increased up to 0.3 mm. It is due to metal softening at high cutting temperature, the chip formation parameters, i.e. friction coefficient (m) and primary shear zone (f), and the shear banding localisation on segmented chip formation
