Hubungan Pola Penggunaan Rokok dengan Tingkat Kejadian Asma

Abstract

Tobacco use behaviors are known as determination factor of respiratory diseases as bronchial asthma. Secondary data of Basic Health Research 2007/2008 from samples of people aged ≥ 10 years old were analyzed to provide the description of tobacco use behaviors and the associations to bronchial asthma cases. The total samples were 15.254 people. Multiple Logistic Regression technique was applied to analyze the association. Results showed that tobacco use behavior (smoking behavior) was 29.7%, while prevalence of bronchial asthma cases was 1.99%. The smokers tended increase according to higher age groups and also to higher education. The smokers were lightly higher (52.6%) among females. For education the mayority of smokers were 47.02% unemployee followed by 37.42% for services/farmer/workers/others. The multivariate analysis showed that smokers of “kretek” cigarretes had risk 1.3 times (OR = 1.336) compared to smokers of others than “kretek” cigarettes, at age, sex, education, occupation constant. We suggest the government to pressure the implementation of law on tobacco and to enhance the community knowledge and awareness on dangers of tobacco use in order to prevent people from respiratory diseases
