Communicative competence of the doctor when reporting stressful information

Abstract

In modern medicine, communicative competence is of particular importance in the professional activity of a doctor. The article presents a foreign structured basic model of the "bad news" SPIKES message, which includes six stages: Setting –establishing contact, Perception – assessment of readiness for perception, Invitation – invitation to dialogue, Knowledge – information message, Emotion – emotional support, Strategy and Summary – discussion of the patient's further actions and summarizing.
