Adaptation to work through self-development and job crafting

Abstract

Employee job crafting and continuous self-development efforts are pivotal for employees and organizations in order to adapt to changes and challenges in the organizational environment. The current study investigated two workplace characteristics, leadership and workplace goal orientation, that were expected to promote these adaptive behaviors. A cross-sectional study with 260 employees from different organizations supported these expectations, and additionally showed that employee adaptability contributed directly and indirectly to adaptation at work. This study contributes to the growing body of adaptability research and has practical implications for HR professionals
