Percutaneous radiologic treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm

Abstract

Daljnjim usavršavanjem korištenih tehnika i materijala, uspješnost operacije raste, a komplikacija opada. Zbog svih prednosti koju endovaskularni popravak aneurizme ima nad tradicionalnom otvorenom operacijom, možemo ju smatrati alternativom u liječenju aneurizme abdominalne aorte.Abdominal aortic aneurysm, with myocardial infarction and stroke, is one of the most common diseases of the blood vessels. It is considered that almost 10% of the male population over age 60 has an aneurysm. Mortality from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm in some cases rises to alarming 90%. With current techniques of aneurysm treatment, such as conservative (medical) treatment and open surgery, the results are not satisfactory. Encouraged with all these problems and shortcomings, 35 years ago experts performed a new repair method for abdominal aortic aneurysm. Although initial results did not meet the expectations of doctors and patients, this form of treatment has not been dropped. Since then, by improving techniques and materials, the success of the operation has been increasing and complications decreasing. Because of all the benefits that endovascular aneurysm repair has over traditional open surgery, it can be considered as an alternative in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms
