ANALISIS KESALAHAN SISWA DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL CERITA SISTEM PERSAMAAN LINEAR DUA VARIABEL BERDASARKAN TAHAPAN NEWMAN

Abstract

This research is motivated by the number of errors made by students in solving math story problems, especially on the material of the two-variable linear equation system (SPLDV). Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the errors made by students so that in the future they can minimize the occurrence of the same mistakes. This study aims to describe students' mistakes in solving SPLDV story problems based on Newman's stages, causal factors, and solutions. The approach used is qualitative with a case study research design. The subjects in this study were class VIII students in one of the public junior high schools in Bandung. Data was collected using test instruments in the form of SPLDV story questions, interviews, and literature studies. Based on the results of the study, found all types of errors based on Newman's stages, namely errors in reading questions, understanding problems, transformations, process skills and writing final answers. Factors that cause errors, namely, 1) students do not understand the meaning of keywords in the problem, 2) students are in a hurry to understand the problem, 3) students do not know how to make mathematical models, 4) students do not know the method of finding SPLDV solutions, and 5) students forgot to give the final answer. Solutions that can be done to overcome these problems are students who get used to working on SPLDV story problems with various levels of difficulty, always writing down known, asked, mathematical models and final answers when working on story questions
