Evaluation of ZONA Unsteady Aerodynamics Method Part I

Abstract

This report is the first part of the evaluation of the aeroelastic toolkit ZAERO Version 6.2. Results of flutter analyses are presented for a 4-engine AIRBUS transport aircraft. The unsteady subsonic aerodynamic method ZONA6, which includes the possibility of modelling displacement bodies, is compared to the well established Doublet-Lattice Method in MSC/NASTRAN. The differences are documented by unsteady pressure coefficient distributions. The focus is to point out the impact of incorporating aerodynamic bodies in the generation of unsteady aerodynamic forces for flutter analysis. In the second part the transonic ZTAIC is compared to the results of a unsteady CFD-Analysis and of the DLR-TDLM-method
