Laboratory Fatigue Studies on Bituminous Concrete Mixes Utilizing Waste Shredded Plastic Modifier

Abstract

The behavior of the bituminous concrete mix containing a binder additive in the form of recycled shredded waste plastic bags was discussed. Marshall stability tests were carried out to determine the optimum bitumen content (OBC) and optimum modifier content (OMC) of the bituminous concrete mix. The fatigue life of the plastic modified bituminous concrete specimens for equal tensile strain was much higher than than that of bituminous concrete specimens tested at same temperature. It was also found that bituminous concrete mixes with plastic modifier exhibited much longer fatigue life than the conventional bituminous concrete
