A courtyard house has unique climatic features, and this makes it a common design for traditional housing. Attention has returned to such housing due to the energy crisis. However, there is a need to develop an engineering basis for such designs. This paper attempts to study one of the climatic features of this type of house, which is night ventilation. The study uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with a basis on time constants for both day and night. The results show that it needs to balance the openness in a house in such a way as to achieve both a lower solar heat gain and a higher ventilation rate
