The possibilities of using biomass in metallurgical processes

Abstract

Rosnące wraz z rozwojem cywilizacyjnym zapotrzebowanie na energię, przy wyczerpywaniu się jej tradycyjnych zasobów – głównie paliw kopalnych (węgiel, ropa naftowa, gaz ziemny) oraz towarzyszący ich zużyciu wzrost zanieczyszczenia środowiska naturalnego, powodują zwiększenie zainteresowania wykorzystaniem energii ze źródeł odnawialnych. Zwiększenie udziału energii odnawialnej w strukturze paliwowej powoduje znaczne obniżenie emisji gazów cieplarnianych. W artykule scharakteryzowano biomasę pod kątem jej wykorzystania jako paliwa alternatywnego. Przedstawiono możliwe aspekty jej stosowania w hutnictwie.Demand for energy growing along with the development of civilization with simultaneous depletion of its traditional resources – primarily fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) and the increase in environmental pollution accompanying their consumption make the interest in the use of energy from renewable sources increase. The increased share of renewable energy in the fuel mix results in a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. This paper describes the biomass for use as an alternative fuel. The possible aspects of its use in the steel industry are presented
