The Usage of Art Works as Visual Materials inTeaching German as a Foreign LanguageSuna Timur Ağıldere, Neşe Işık Tertemiz, Selcen ArslangilayGazi Üniversity, TurkeyAbstractSeeing is highly effective among the impact of sense organs on learning, sousage of visual materials is among the basic principles in foreign languageteaching. In this study, activities designed by the researchers, stimulus startedwith the basic principle of foreign language teaching which is based on learnerautonomy and self-evaluation materials and activities that is the philosophyof CEF. As the stimulus in the activities were artistic, these would have anattention-grabbing role on prompting the learners’ comprehension and rep-resentation skills. In determining the artistic values of the stimulus, expertviews were taken. While determining the activities with artistic stimuli, CEFA1 level and the aim of the project (teaching German to engineering studentsas a foreign language in an Erasmus KA2 project) were taken into account.The designed activities were developed for A1 level for the participants whowere the attendants of the project courses. The basic reason was to put forththe range of “can do” assignments in CEF. Art works were used as stimulus,artistic pictures were given in A1 level. After defining the aimed skill domainof the activity the “can do” statements which are also the aims of the activities1339 Synnyt / Origins | 2 / 2019 | Abstractswere given.
