Wherever we look, we are inun-diated with them, also, and perhaps mostly with the help of modern infor-mation technologies. The so-called visual and artistic literacies and picto-rial sciences are coming increasingly in the foreground of needs of the Slove-nian and International public. Otherwise (too) slowly, also due to lack of in-teres tof school policy, that is preferentially dedicated to the problems of read-ing/writing/speaking and mathematical and natural science literacies. How-ever, one of the leading innovators in the field of interactive technology hassaid, more than 15 years ago: ”The wold of words and numbers is irrevo-cably dead”. Which may be one of the reason for concern. This more thanradical statement was then referring to the role of images in educational pro-cesses. . . In this paper the author will present some of the reasons for thegrowing importance of images in education. These have roots in the inventionof photograpy in the 19th century and the unstoppable development (learn-ing) technologies in the last 50 years. Working with images/pictures (eitheras a means to acheive other goals either as the end goal) is seen as basic in all1110 Synnyt / Origins | 2 / 2019 | Abstractsschool subjects in primary and secondary schools, last and not least, also in arteducation lessons. Creating, studying, understanding and interpretation of im-ages/pictures will be presented with the examples of works of art from artistsand children/youth, visual communication and graphic expressions such as,histograms, graphs and more.
