The enquinche is one of the oldest construction systems and is still in force in several rural and urban regions of the province of Manabí. The system is based on prefabricated panels woven from Guadua rattan, covered or plastered with clay or similar materials. In this sense, the importance of improving the quality of life in rural communities has been reflected, which has become a clear objective, given that in general terms the quality of the products provided by the national plan is limited and cannot meet the needs of the population. Based on a survey aimed at developing a comprehensive approach to the use of enquinche as an alternative cladding material in the construction of low-income housing, this article first presents the housing approach implemented in the country. Then, it explains the definition of the conceptual framework and the recommendations of ancestral construction methods, and based on the analysis of the research results, transform them into design recommendations and improved regulations.

El sistema se basa en paneles prefabricados tejidos de ratán Guadua, revestidos o revocados con barro o materiales similares. Se ha reflejado la importancia de mejorar la calidad de vida en las comunidades rurales, dado que en términos generales la calidad de los productos que brindan los planes habitacionales nacional es limitada y no puede satisfacer las necesidades de la población. Basado en un análisis destinado a desarrollar un enfoque integral de la utilización del enquinche como material alternativo de revestimiento en la construcción de viviendas de interés social. El objetivo de esta investigación consiste en determinar la viabilidad del enquinche como material alternativo de revestimiento y su utilización en proyectos de vivienda de interés social. Para ello, esta investigación de enfoque mixto presenta, en primera instancia el plan habitacional implementado en el Ecuador y luego, explica la definición del marco conceptual y las recomendaciones de métodos ancestrales de construcción, con base en el análisis de los resultados de la investigación, transformarlos en recomendaciones de diseño y regulaciones mejoradas. A través de esta instigación se llegó a la conclusión de que el enquinche puede considerarse viable para su uso en revestimiento de viviendas de interés social en base a los estándares, regulaciones y costos de materiales sismorresistentes convencionales.
