Abstract

Not AvailableVivipary is the precocious germination of seeds while attached to the mother plants itself. Many plants especially those are growing in adverse geographical situation (Mangroves, sea grasses etc.) exhibit vivipary to sustain its population. In addition to vivipary, many grasses exhibiting a condition called pseudo vivipary. In this case the propagules are not developed from mature seeds but it develops from the floral meritstem or any other vegetative tissue around it. The asexual propagules such as bulbils or plantlets replace the sexual reproductive structures. The occurrence of pseudo vivipary is observed in one clone of Neyraudia reynaudiana (IND 89-734) in the germplasm collection maintained at SBIRC, KannurNot Availabl
