In forensic dentistry, radiologic methods based on pulp narrowing and secondary dentin formation have been presented in various races. In 2004, Cameriere et al. formulated a detailed radiographic method for age estimation of adults using orthopantomographs to study the pulp/tooth ratio (PTR) i n maxillary canines. Nevertheless, no related studies exist on Mongolian samples, and there is no established dental age estimation method in Mongolia, to the best of our knowledge.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the applicability of the PTR method for age estimation in Mongolian samples using panoramic radiographs and to derive new regression formulae. Moreover, we aimed at assessing the accuracy of these formula e in Mongolian samples and comparing with the other formulae in different Asian populations.Materials and Methods: The study group consisted of 271 panoramic radiographs of individuals aged between 15-62 years. To verify the formulae, two types of test samples were collected; 73 panoramic radiographs and 37 periapical radiograph s of clinically extracted canines. The images were measured using ImageJ software (version 1.52, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA). The PTR was calculated in the upper and lower canine teeth. The estimated age was calculated using our new formulae and three others for Asian populations. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to check the probability distribution. Inter-observer reproducibility of measurements was studied using the interclass correlation coefficient. Linear regression analyses were performed between the actual age and upper-lower canine PTR and established formulae for age estimation. When canines were considered, regression analysis showed the following formulae: Age = 85.45-419.78 × PTR (upper canine), Age = 83.47-406.51 × PTR (lower canine). According to our new regression formulae, the differences between the estimated and actual age showed a mound-shaped distribution using both test groups. The distribution patterns were quite different when Mongolian samples were substituted by other Asian formulae. From results, our method could be considered appropriate for age estimation in Mongolians. Therefore, new formulae for the Mongolian population are needed. Our study is the first to examine the relationship between actual age and PTR using Mongolian samples審 査 結 果 要 旨法医学において年齢推定は非常に重要な意義をもつ。様々な人体由来の指標に基づいた年齢推定法の中で、加齢による二次象牙質の形成に伴う歯髄腔の狭窄をエックス線画像に基づいて評価する放射線学的手法は侵襲が少なく試料保存の観点からも優れた手法として計算モデルや推定精度が検討されてきた。特に犬歯や小臼歯を対象とし、パノラマエックス線写真上の画像面積から算出した歯髄／歯牙比（pulp/tooth ratio, 以下 PTR）に基づく計算式が有用であることが知られている。一方、計算モデルは人類集団に特異的であるため、他集団の計算モデルの適用は慎重に検討する必要がある。本研究は、未だ年齢推定研究が行われていないモンゴル人について、パノラマエックス線写真を資料とし、同集団に適したPTR法の年齢推定回帰式を構築するとともに、その有用性とモデルの集団差を検証している。研究方法は１） 15歳から62歳までのモンゴル人271人のパノラマエックス線写真を無作為に抽出し資料としている。JPEGファイルとして保存した画像からImageJを用いて上下の犬歯のPTRを計測し、計測者間誤差をクラス間相関係数を用いて検討した後、PTRと年齢の直線回帰式と相関係数を算出している。２） １）とは異なるモンゴル人の犬歯のパノラマエックス線写真73枚と口内法エックス線写真37枚を収集し、１）の回帰式と韓国、インド、イランの３集団の既存の回帰式を用いて、実年齢と推定年齢の差から、１）で導出された回帰式の有用性と人類集団による差異を検討している。結果は、１） 上下顎ともに犬歯のPTRの観察者間の再現性は良好である。上顎犬歯を用いた年齢推定の回帰式は、Age = 85.45 - 419.78 × PTRとなり、ｒ値は0.72である。下顎犬歯の回帰式は、Age = 83.47-406.51 × PTRとなり、ｒ値は0.72である。２） 犬歯のパノラマエックス線写真を用いて推定式の精度評価を行うと、推定年齢と実年齢の差は０をピークとしたばらつきの少ないベル型の分布を示す。口内法エックス線写真を用いた場合は誤差分布がやや広くなる。モンゴル人のPTRに他のアジア人集団の回帰式を適用させた場合は、分布パターンが大きく異なる。以上から、本研究で導き出されたモンゴル人資料を用いたPTR法の回帰式は年齢推定に有用であることが明らかとなった。また、本方法は口内法エックス線写真に比較してパノラマエックス線写真を－ 13 －用いる方が良好な結果がもたらされること、集団により異なる回帰式が必要であることも確認された。本論文は、モンゴル人の歯を用いた法歯学的年齢推定に関する初の報告であり、国際的な法医学・法歯学の発展に寄与する非常に重要な知見であると評価でき、博士（歯学）の学位に相応しいと判断した．
