At the age of fourteen, Hawthorne came to reside with his mother in the house which her brothers had built for her on their new lands in Maine -- a large house, the walls of which are still standing, near the shores of Sebago Lake, in Raymond. He lived there several years, at different times, including some of the vacations of his college course. They were days of delight.
