ResumoO artigo apresenta o Programa de ações Afirmativas da UFSCar e os primeiros passos para sua implementação. Este programa se dirige a estudantes que tenham cursado o Ensino Médio exclusivamente em escola pública, e entre estes a estudantes negros e indígenas. O objetivos perseguidos, os desafios enfrentados e diferentes expectativas despertadas pela introdução desta política institucional são examinados na perspectiva de excelência acadêmica e educativa com compromisso social. The program is addressed to students who did their secondary studies in public schools, and among the places reserved to them, some are intended to Blacks and Indians. The goals to pursue, challenges faced, different expectations that the introduction of this institucional policy create are discussed in the perspective of academic excellence and educational quality social commitment.
