This action-research report is the result of a research project carried out within the
scope of the Supervised Pedagogical Practice of the Masters in Pre-School Education. The theme
under study is active learning, a methodology centered on Learning to Learn and Learning by
Doing, that is, on the way children explore, manipulate, investigate, what is around them. In
active learning, the child is seen as a competent citizen and capable of making decisions about
their learning and development process.
The investigation emerged from the observations and interventions made during the
first two moments of internship in two different institutions, day care and kindergarten. This
study aimed to understand the importance of children being active subjects in their learning
process and the role of the educator in creating an environment that optimizes learning through
action.
Methodologically, the project was developed according to an action-research
methodology and qualitative approach. The main information collection devices used and that
allowed me to intervene and answer the starting question were: participant observation, field
notes, photography, informal conversations with educators and children and the questionnaire
survey. After collecting the information, the reflection of all the information allowed me to
understand that in order to optimize an active learning environment, it is essential that the
kindergarten teacher, as a curriculum manager, organizes a challenging and safe space for
children to develop their explorations. and experience, which involves them in planning and
assessment, as it makes them aware of themselves as learners, which creates playful,
meaningful and continuous learning opportunities and which respects the child's freedom of
choice. In this work, I present the path taken, reflecting on the situations that I observed and
experienced in an internship context
