Passer à l’avenir est un ouvrage important et original, se situant à la charnière entre l’historique et le politique, entre le passé et le futur. Notre texte tente de cerner les tenants et aboutissants des options historiographiques qu’y développe Jocelyn Létourneau, en accordant une attention particulière aux notions d’ambiguïté et d’ambivalence, sur lesquelles l’ouvrage insiste particulièrement, et en adoptant pour fil conducteur les questions méta-historique et historiographique. Le texte propose une critique de l’usage que fait Létourneau de ces notions, en distinguant une mobilisation théorique et une mobilisation pratique de ces notions, tout en insistant sur l’articulation, qu’exemplifie son historiographie, de ces deux mobilisations.Passer à l’avenir is an important and original work, standing at the junction between the historical and political spheres, between the past and the future. Our article aims to pinpoint the finer distinctions of the historiographical options developed in it by Jocelyn Létourneau, paying particular attention to the concepts of ambiguity and ambivalence, which are particularly emphasized in the book, and by adopting metahistorical and historiographical issues as leitmotifs. The article provides a critique of Létourneau’s use of these concepts, while distinguishing between a theoretical and a practical mobilization of these concepts, and emphasizing the articulation of these two mobilizations as exemplified in his historiography
