Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tuottaa opetusmateriaali ehkäisymenetelmistä helpottamaan terveystiedon opettajien työtä ja pitää aiheesta käytännönläheiset terveystiedon opetustunnit kahdeksannen luokan oppilaille. Tavoitteena oli lisätä oppilaiden tietoa eri ehkäisymenetelmistä, oppilaiden ymmärrystä ehkäisyn merkityksestä sekä vastuullista ja eettistä terveyskäyttäytymistä.
Ehkäisymenetelmät on ajankohtainen aihe. THL:n kouluterveyskyselyjen ja WHO:n koululaistutkimusten perusteella nuorten vastuullisessa seksuaalikäyttäytymisessä olisi kehitettävää. Opinnäytetyön työelämäkumppanin kokema tuen tarve ehkäisyn opettamiseen tuki aiheen valintaa. Edellä mainitusta syistä johtuen, koettiin tärkeäksi tuottaa ajankohtainen materiaali ehkäisymenetelmien opettamiseen.
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin toiminnallisena opinnäytetyönä. Työ muodostui raportista ja opetusmateriaalista. Opinnäytetyön yhteistyökumppanina toimi Tuusulan kunta. Kirjallisessa osuudessa käsitellään nuorten seksuaalikasvatuksen, nuoruuden kehitysvaiheen, ehkäisymenetelmien sekä hyvien opetusmenetelmien teoriaa. Toiminnallinen osuus muodostui käytännönläheisestä opetusmateriaalista ehkäisymenetelmien opettamiseen.
Valmiin työn arvioinnissa käytettiin apuna strukturoitua palautekyselyä, avointa kyselylomaketta ja suullista palautetta. Opettajilta saadun palautteen perusteella opetusmateriaali vastasi opettajien toiveita, oli sisällöltään korkealaatuinen ja harkittu sekä opetukseen erittäin hyvin soveltuva. Materiaalin sisällöllinen jäsennys oli toimiva ja ikätaso hyvin huomioitu. Oppilaiden palautekyselyn perusteella kaikki nuoret kokivat oppineensa uusia asioita ehkäisystä. He kokivat saaneensa riittävästi tietoa ehkäisystä ja suurin osa koki tietävänsä, mistä ehkäisyä voi jatkossa hankkia. Kokonaisuudessa oppilaat kokivat opetuspisteet hyödyllisiksi ja informatiivisiksi.
Kehittämisehdotukseksi nousi materiaalin julkaiseminen sähköisesti, mikä helpottaisi opetusmateriaalin käyttämistä jatkossa. Lisäksi materiaalia voisi laajentaa esimerkiksi sukupuolitauteihin, luoden yhtenäisen kokonaisuuden seksuaaliterveyteen.The purpose of this thesis was to create teaching material about contraception and birth control to help health education teachers. The material was tested and practical lessons were held for eighth-graders. The aim was to increase pupils’ knowledge of different kinds of birth control methods, to increase pupils’ understanding of the meaning of birth control and to increase pupils’ responsibility and ethical health behavior.
Contraception is very topical currently. The Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare’s student health inquiry and WHO’s school health promotion studies show that there are some prob-lems in responsible sexual health behaviour. The working life partner felt the need for updated materials, which supported the choice of topic.
The thesis was conducted as a functional thesis. The thesis consists a report and material for teaching. The working life partner was the municipality of Tuusula. The report of this thesis discussed theories on sex education, teenagers’ developmental phase, contraception and teaching methods. The product of this functional thesis was material for teaching contraception.
After the lessons the teachers filled in a questionnaire and a feedback conversation was held. The pupils also filled in a structured feedback questionnaire. The feedback from the finalised material was really good. The teachers thought that the material met their needs. The material was of high quality, well-designed and suited to teaching a class. The structure of the material was well-planned and the pupils’ age was considered.
The feedback from the pupils was good. Everyone felt that they learned new things. The pupils felt that they got enough information of contraception and after the lessons, the majority of the pupils knew where they can get contraception. The pupils felt that the activity points were useful and informative.
In the future, it would be beneficial to publish the teaching material in digital form, which would ease the use of the material. Also, the material could be expanded to sexually transmitted diseases which thus creates a solid foundation in sexual health
