Opinnäytetyöni aihe syntyi, kun eräs konserttitilaaja halusi järjestää kirkkokonsertin Suomen 100- vuotisen itsenäisyyden juhlistamiseksi. Konsertti tilattiin minulta ja oululaiselta baritonilta Juhani Alakärpältä. Konsertin ohjelmaan toivottiin suomalaista laulumusiikkia urku- ja pianosäestyksellä sekä mahdollisesti myös urkumusiikkia. Kun konsertissa esitettäviä teoksia mietittiin, tulin siihen johtopäätökseen, että tähän kiinnostavaan asiaan pitää perehtyä laajemmin. Aloin samalla pohtia, kuinka löytäisin tietoa aiheesta.
Opinnäytetyötäni varten etsin tietoa muun muassa Oulun seurakuntien keskusarkistosta, jossa kävin läpi kirkkokonserttien ohjelmia Suomen itsenäisyyden ajalta. Turun Sibelius-museosta löytyi useita julkaisemattomia urkusävellyksiä, joita on esitetty vain muutamia kertoja pääasiassa säveltäjän itsensä esittämänä. Kävin läpi myös runsaasti suomalaisuutta, suomalaista musiikkia ja Suomen historiaa käsittelevää kirjallisuutta. Kirjallisuudesta etsin erityisesti mainintoja suomalaisten säveltäjien isänmaallisista ja hengellisistä lauluista sekä urkusävellyksistä. Kirkkokonserttien kehittymiseen on vaikuttanut 1900-luvulla lisääntynyt urkujenrakentaminen sekä muusikkojen koulutuksen yleistyminen ja sen laadun nousu.
Selvitystyöni pohjalta suunnittelin kirkkokonsertin, jonka ohjelma esittelee suomalaista isänmaallista ja hengellistä laulu- ja urkumusiikkia. Opinnäytetyötä tehdessä löysin ennen julkaisemattomia urkuteoksia, joista kaksi päätyi konserttiohjelmaan. Vastaavaa opinnäytetyötä ei ole aikaisemmin tehty Suomessa ja aiheesta olisi tutkittavaa laajemmin. Opinnäytetyöhön liittyvä taiteellinen konserttiosio esitettiin usealla paikkakunnalla Suomen itsenäisyyden juhlavuonna 2017.The topic of this thesis came up when one of the concert client wanted to arrange a church concert for celebrating Finland’s 100-year independence. This concert was ordered from me and baritone Juhani Alakärppä from Oulu. They wished Finnish singing music accompanied with the organ and the piano for the program of the concert and possibly also organ music. When the musical works were considered for the program I came up with the conclusion that this extremely interesting topic must be studied more and started to investigate how to find more information about this topic.
For this thesis, information was searched, for example, from the main archives of Oulu churches, where several church concert programs played during the independence of Finland. In Sibelius museum of Turku it was discovered many unpublished organ compositions which have only been played a few times, mainly by the composer itself. In addition, Plenty of literature about Finnishness, Finnish music and the history of Finland were studied in the literature, especially were searched references about the patriotism of the Finnish composers, sacred songs and organ compositions. The increase of building organs and the betterquality education for musicians have had an impact on the development of the church concerts in the 20th century.
Based on this research, I were designed a church concert which program introduces Finnish patriotic and sacred music. Two of unpublished music works found during the research was included in the program of this concert. A similar thesis has not been made in Finland before and there are still plenty of research topics left in this area. The concert, which is the artistic part of this thesis, was performed in several cities and towns during the year 2017, the year of celebration of Finland’s 100-year independence
