Toimeksiantajamme Keski-Suomen Muistiyhdistyksen mukaan muistisairasta hoitavat omaiset kaipasivat arjen neuvoja ja käytännön vinkkejä siihen, kuinka kotia voisi hyödyntää kuntoutusympäristönä sekä miten ja millaisia muistisairasta tukevia aktiviteetteja kotona voisi mahdollistaa. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, mitä keinoja kotiympäristössä voidaan käyttää osana muistisairaan kuntoutusta ja mitä toimijuutta tukevia toimintoja siellä voi harjoitella. Kartoitimme omaishoitajien ja kotilomittajien käsityksiä siitä millä keinoin he tukevat muistisairasta selviytymään arjessa parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla ja mitä mahdollisia vaikeuksia he ovat kohdanneet muistisairaan arjessa
Tavoitteena oli tämän pohjalta tunnistaa muistisairaan arjen merkityksellisiä tekijöitä. Opinnäytetyömme yhdistää käytännön kokemukset tutkittuun tietoon. Tämä toteutetaan omaishoitajien ja kotilomittajien haastattelujen ja tutkimustiedon etsimisen kautta. Haastattelujen ja tutkimusten tulokset jaetaan opinnäyteyössämme. Suurimmaksi osaksi tutkimusnäyttö tuki haastatteluissa esille nousseita asioita, mutta haastatteluissa ilmeni myös asioita, joista ei ollut näyttöä tai se oli ristiriitaista. Haastattelun kautta saimme rikkaampaa tietoa kuin mitä pelkillä tutkimusten tuloksilla olisimme saavuttaneet.
Erilaiset toiminnot ja aktiviteetit ovat mahdollisia toteuttaa kotiympäristössä ja niillä voidaan tukea muistisairaan toimijuutta sekä ylläpitää säilyneitä taitoja ja hidastaa muistisairauksien haitallisia vaikutuksia. Toimintaa voidaan pilkkoa ja porrastaa muistisairaan yksilöllisen toimintakyvyn ja haasteiden luonteen mukaan. Muistisairauden edetessä ohjauksen ja tuen tarve kasvaa, mutta tästä huolimatta päivittäinen toiminta ja eri aktiviteetit pysyvät tärkeässä roolissa ajatellen muistisairaan ja omaishoitajan elämänlaatua ja sujuvaa arkea.According to the assignor of the thesis, Keski-Suomen Muistiyhdistys (Central Finland Memory Association), the relatives of persons suffering from memory disease need every day advice and practical tips on how to exploit home as a rehabilitation environment and what kind of activities/occupations can be enabled in the home environment. The purpose of the thesis was to find ways that could be used in the home environment as part of the rehabilitation of persons with memory diseases and the kind of occupations that would support their function and that could be practiced at home. The work focused on the notions of caregivers and their substitutes on the ways to support persons with memory diseases to cope with everyday life as well as possible. Furthermore, another focus was on the difficulties they had encountered in the life of a person with a memory disease.
The aim of the work was to recognize meaningful factors in the everyday life of a person with a memory disease. Another aim was to combine practical experiences with research information. This was carried out by interviewing caregivers and their substitutes as well as by searching appropriate research findings.
The results of the interviews and research are shared in the thesis. The research evidence mostly supported the issues raised by the interviews, but the interviews also raised issues that were either not in line with research evidence or conflicting. Thus, the interviews gave more versatile information than the research data.
Different occupations and activities can be carried out in the home environment, and they can be used to support the function of persons with memory diseases as well as to maintain the remaining skills and to slow down the harmful effects of a memory disease. The occupations can be broken down and graded based on individual ability to function and on the nature of challenges of the person with a memory disease. When a memory disease progresses, the need of guidance and support increases. Nevertheless, daily occupations and different activities keep their important role when considering the quality of life and the smoothness of daily life of the caregivers and their charges living at home
