ECT-hoidon potilasohjausmateriaali : Esittelyvideo ja potilasopas Julkulan sairaalan neuromodulaatioryhmän masennus- ja skitsofreniapotilaiden potilasohjauksen tueksi
Mielenterveyden häiriöt ovat laaja-alaisia, kaikkiin elämän osa-alueisiin vaikuttavia sairauksia. Mielenterveyshäiriöstä kärsivällä voi olla vaikeuksia muun muassa mielialan vaihtelun, painon nousun, harhaluulojen ja syömisen suhteen. Myös kognitiivinen työskentely voi olla mielenterveyden häiriöstä kärsivälle haastavaa. Hoitomuodot ja lääkkeet kehittyvät jatkuvasti, ja potilasohjauksen tarve korostuu tulevaisuudessa entistä enemmän.
Sähköhoito on turvallinen ja paljon käytetty hoitomuoto eräiden mielenterveyden häiriöiden hoidossa. Potilaan täytyy saada ohjausta ennen sähköhoidon aloittamista, jotta potilas sitoutuisi paremmin hoitoon. Ohjauksen avulla potilas muistaa helpommin, mitä täytyy tehdä ennen sähköhoitoon saapumista. Tämä lisää potilasturvallisuutta.
Opinnäytetyönä tuotettiin potilasohjausvideo ja potilasopas sähköhoidon ohjauksen tueksi Julkulan sairaalan neuromodulaatioryhmälle. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin toiminnallisena opinnäytetyönä, johon kuuluu sekä video että opas. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on lisätä tietoa sähköhoidosta potilaalle ja yhtenäistää potilasohjausta. Videon ja oppaan tehtävänä ja tavoitteena on parantaa sähköhoidon ohjausta ja potilaiden sitoutuvuutta sähköhoitoon. Oppaan avulla potilas voi vielä ohjaustilanteen jälkeen kerrata sähköhoitoon liittyviä asioita.
Jatkotutkimus- ja kehittämismahdollisuus voisi olla se, millaisena henkilökunta on pitänyt videon ja oppaan käytön potilasohjauksessa. Lisäksi voisi tutkia tuotteiden käytettävyyttä kyseisessä yksikössä. Näiden jo tehtyjen potilasohjausmateriaalien lisäksi voisi vielä tehdä hoitajan tarkastuslistan uuden sähköhoitopotilaan ohjaukseen liittyen.Mental disorders are wide-ranged and all aspects of life affect diseases. A person who is suffering from mental disorders may have various difficulties such as mood swings, weight gain, and delusions in terms of eating. Also cognitive functioning can be challenging for people with mental disorders. Therapies and medicines are constantly evolving, and the need for patient education is amplified even more in the future.
Electroconvulsive therapy is a safe and widely used form of treatment of certain mental disorders. The patient must get counseling before the electrical therapy, which helps the patient to commit with the treatment better. Counseling allows the patient to remember more easily what they need to do before arriving to treatment. This increases the patient’s safety.
As a result of this thesis there is a patient guide video and a patient guide book produced for the neuromodulation crew at Julkula hospital to support electroconculsive therapy counseling. The thesis was a functional one and includes both a video and a guide book. The aim of this thesis is to increase the patient’s knowledge about the electrical treatment and to standardize patient counseling. The objective of the video and the guide is to improve the counceling of electroconvulsive therapy and increase the commitment regarding patients going through the treatment. Patients are able to revise things related to electrical treatment with the guide.
Further research and development ideas regarding the thesis could focus on the opinions of the neuromodulation crew about the patient video and the patient guide in use. In the future it could also be possible to examine the usability of the products within the unit. In addition to these patient education materials already made there could still be a nurse’s checklist for counseling related to admitting new electroconculsive patients.Opinnäytetyöhön kuuluu raportin lisäksi potilasopas sekä esittelyvideo.
