Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää, onko henkilökuvadokumentin tekeminen eläimestä mahdollista sekä tarkastella mitä sen toteuttaminen vaatii. Dokumenttini päähenkilö on koira nimeltään Laku ja hänen ajatuksiaan ja häntä ympäröivää maailmaa tulkitsee hänen isäntäperheensä, jotka tunsin entuudestaan.
Tutkin hyvin käytännönläheisesti, mitä tällaisen dokumentin tekeminen vaatii ja mitä pidän hyvän tekijän ominaisuuksina. Käsittelen asiaa hyvin henkilökohtaisella lähestymistavalla, niin teknisen toteutuksen kuin eettisten kysymystenkin osalta.
Lähdemateriaalini koostuu aiheeseen liittyvistä artikkeleista ja kirjallisuudesta, joiden sisältöä peilaan omaan dokumenttiini ja sen tekoprosessiin.
Dokumenttielokuvan tekeminen kokeellisella lähestymistavalla ei mielestäni ollut helppoa, mutta niissä puitteissa mitkä olin itselleni luonut, suoriuduin mielestäni kunnialla. Sain kaivettua lopulta esiin dokumenttini temaattisen identiteetin ja käsiteltyä
niitä teemoja mitä lähdin hakemaankin.The purpose of this thesis was to figure out if it is possible to make a portrait documentary of an animal and what it takes to make it happen. The main character in the documentary is a dog called Laku and the world surrounding him is portrayed by his master family, which I was acquainted with.
The thesis studied the subject from a very practical point of view, looking into what it required to make this kind of a documentary and what I regarded as the qualities of a good documentarist. The matter was handled with a very personal approach when it comes to the technical execution as well as the ethical questions.
The source material consisted of articles and literature related to the subject and the contents was reflected through my own documentary and the process of making it.
Making a documentary with an experimental approach was not easy, in my opinion, but within the terms of reference that I had created for myself, I managed quite well. I was able to dig out the thematic identity of my documentary and managed to handle the themes that I intended to in the first place
