Opinnäytetyömme tarkoituksena oli selvittää Laukaan JOPO-luokkalaisten kokemuksia peruskoulun viimeisestä vuodesta. JOPO-luokan eli joustavan perusopetuksen luokan pyrkimyksenä on vähentää nuorten syrjäytymistä. JOPO-luokalle hakeudutaan suorittamaan peruskoulun viimeinen luokka ja tarkoituksena onkin että kaikki oppilaat saisivat peruskoulun päättötodistuksen.
Tutkimuksemme on toteutettu laadullisena eli kvalitatiivisena tutkimuksena. Haastattelimme tutkimukseen yhteensä kahdeksaa Laukaan JOPO-luokkalaista. Haastattelut toteutettiin teemahaastatteluina, joihin olimme valinneet yhteensä kuusi teemaa. Teemoiksi valitsimme perustiedot, hakeutumisen JOPO-luokalle, koulunkäynnin, sosiaaliset suhteet, työharjoittelut sekä tulevaisuuden. Viitekehykseksi valitsimme sosiaalisen pääoman näkökulman, minkä kautta lähdimme analysoimaan tutkimustuloksia. Mielestämme oppilaiden sosiaalinen pääoma on yksi merkittävä tekijä syrjäytymisen ehkäisyssä.
Kaikki haastateltavamme kertoivat hyötyneensä JOPO-luokan opinnoista ainakin jossain määrin. Hyötyjä löysimme useilta eri osa-alueilta ja jotkin oppilaat olivat hyötyneet JOPO-luokalla opiskelusta hyvinkin paljon, toiset vähemmän. Kaikki haastateltavistamme yhtä lukuunottamatta saivat peruskoulun päättötodistuksen, yksi jäi vielä vuodeksi JOPO-luokalle. Suurin osa myös pääsi jatko-opintoihin.
Valitsimme aiheen sen ajankohtaisuuden ja kiinnostavuuden vuoksi. Tutkimuksemme perusteella koemme, että JOPO-luokasta on hyötyä peruskoulun päättämisessä. Tässä tutkimuksessa saimme huomata JOPO-luokan vaikuttavan erityisen myönteisesti oppilaiden koulunkäyntiin ja koulumotivaatioon.The purpose of this thesis was to examine JOPO-graders’ experiences of their last school year. The purpose of the JOPO-class or flexible basic education is to reduce the marginalization of the youth. Pupils come to the JOPO class to perform the last year of the comprehensive school. The purpose of JOPO class is that all of the pupils receive school leaving certificates.
This study was implemented as qualitative research. A total of eight pupils of Laukaa´s JOPO class were interviewed for the study. The interviews were conducted as theme interviews for which six themes had been chosen. The themes were basic information, reasons for coming to the JOPO class, school attendance, social relationships, internships and future. As a frame of reference the perspective of social capital was chosen, and this perspective formed the basis of the analysis of the results. The authors of this work regarded the pupils’ social capital as one significant factor in the prevention of social exclusion.
All of the interviewees stated that they had benefitted from their JOPO class studies at least to some extent. Benefits in several different areas were reported, and some students had greatly benefitted from the JOPO class, and some to a smaller degree. All but one the interviewees had received a school leaving certificate. The one without the certificate was going to stay in the JOPO class for one more year. The majority of the students had also managed to find a place for further studies.
This topic was chosen because it was of great current interest. On the basis of this study it can be stated that the JOPO class is useful with regard to graduating from comprehensive school. According to the results, the JOPO class seemed to affect the pupils’ school attendance and motivation in a highly positive way
