Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kuvata Etelä-Karjalan mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluita. Lisäksi tarkoituksena oli kuvata yleisimpiä mielenterveys- ja päihdehäiriöitä, mielenterveys- ja päihdetyön historiaa, potilaan oikeuksia mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluiden asiakkaana sekä lakeja, jotka ohjaavat mielenterveys- ja päihdetyötä. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin laadullista lähestymistapaa käyttäen. Tietoa kerättiin Etelä-Karjalan mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluista käyttäen aineistona valmista kirjallista materiaalia. Vastauksia haettiin kysymyksiin Etelä-Karjalan kunnallisista ja yksityisistä mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluista ja aineiston analyysimenetelmänä käytettiin sisällönanalyysiä.
Opinnäytetyön tulokset muodostuvat niistä kunnallisista ja yksityisistä mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluista, joita Etelä-Karjalalla on tarjota asiakkaalle. Tulosten perusteella palvelut jaettiin seuraavien otsikoiden alle: Etelä-Karjalan mielenterveys- ja päihdepalvelut, Etelä-Karjalan osastopalvelut, Etelä-Karjalan avohoidon palvelut, Etelä-Karjalan kuntouttava toiminta ja työtoiminta sekä Etelä-Karjalan asumispalvelut. Tavoitteena on, että opinnäytetyön avulla Etelä-Karjalan mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluita voidaan kehittää ja tuotettua tietoa voidaan käyttää potilaiden ohjauksen apuna.
Tutkimustulosten perusteella Etelä-Karjalan sosiaali- ja terveyspiirin tarjoamat mielenterveys- ja päihdepalvelut olivat helposti ja selkeästi löydettävissä Internetistä. Sen sijaan yksityisen sektorin tarjoamien palveluiden löytäminen oli haasteellista. Asiakkaan kannalta tämä saattaa muodostua esteeksi hoitoon hakeutumiselle, koska mielenterveys- ja päihdeasiakkaiden voimavarat eivät aina riitä järjestelmälliseen tiedonhakuun.
Opinnäytetyön tulosten pohjalta olisi mahdollista kehittää Etelä-Karjalan mielenterveys- ja päihdepalveluita. Kehittämisen kohteet, kuten palveluiden löydettävyys, ovat havaittavissa opinnäytetyön avulla. Tutkimustuloksia voisi myös hyödyntää laatimalla tulosten pohjalta paperiseen oppaan, jota voisi pitää asiakkaiden saatavilla esimerkiksi perusterveydenhuollossa.The purpose of this thesis was to describe mental health and substance abuse services of South Karelia. The intension was also to describe the most common mental and substance abuse disorders, the history of mental health and substance abuse, patient rights of mental health and substance abuse services to a customer together with laws that govern mental health and substance abuse work.
This thesis was conducted as a qualitative one. The data was collected from the South Karelia mental health and substance abuse services using prepared materials found in the literature. Answers were sought to questions from South Karelia municipal and private mental health and substance abuse services, and the information was analyzed by using deductive content analysis.
The results of the thesis are formed from those municipal and private mental health and substance abuse services which South Karelia has to offer to the customer. The services were divided into the following headings: mental health and substance abuse services of South Karelia, the department services of South Karelia, the community-based services of South Karelia, the rehabilitation services and work activities of South Karelia together with the housing services of South Karelia. The aim is that with this thesis, the South Karelia mental health and substance abuse services can be developed and the produced information can be used for helping patients.
The results of the thesis indicate that South Karelia Social and Health Care District mental health and substance abuse services were easily and clearly found on the Internet. However, those from the private sector services were a challenge to find. From the customer’s point of view this may be a barrier when searching for treatment, because the resources of mental health and substance abuse clients are not always enough for systematic information retrieval.
The results of this thesis foster the development of South Karelia mental health and substance abuse services, and may also be used to draw up a brochure to be made available to customers, for example in primary care
