Abstract
Bacteriologic studies were carried out in a total of 133 c ases of urinary tract infection experienced at our department. Gram-negative organisms such as E. coli, proteus, pseudomonas and others were isolated in 80 per cent of all the cases. The drug sensitivity tests showed that E. coli was rather susceptible to many antibacterial drugs except for penicillin and sulfonamide. On the other hand, pseudomonas and proteus were found to be resistent to any chemotherapeutics. Panf u ran S, a new furan derivative, proved to have a wider and stronger spectrum for the gram-negative bacilli and to be effective in controlling the urinary tract infections
