Tutkimuksemme tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten yhteisöllinen toiminta soveltuu työmenetelmäksi lastensuojeluyksikköön. Halusimme selvittää, miten tällainen toiminta vaikuttaa arjen sujuvuuteen ja lasten käyttäytymiseen yksikössä. Lisäksi halusimme selvittää saavatko lapset tällaisen toiminnan kautta eväitä tulevaisuuteensa.
Teoriaosuudessa käsittelemme lastensuojelun historiaa ja nykypäivää, yhteisöllisyyden käsitettä ja kerromme toimintatutkimuksesta. Yhteisöllisyyttä pidämme teoria osuutemme tärkeimpänä osana, koska koemme sen merkityksen lasten tulevaisuutta ajatellen tärkeäksi. Lisäksi esittelemme lastensuojeluyksikkö Pihapuun, jonne teimme opinnäytetyömme ja kerromme menetelmistä, joita lastensuojeluyksikössä käytetään. Tutkimuksemme oli toimintatutkimus, jossa tutkimuksen kohteena olivat yksikön lapset. Yksikön henkilökunta toimi apunamme havainnoinnissa.
Tutkimuksemme osoitti, että yhteisöllinen projekti on toimiva työmenetelmä lastensuojeluyksikössä. Projekti antaa lapsille mahdollisuuden jakaa mielipiteitä ja he pääsevät osallisiksi toimintaan. Projektimme aikana ja sen jälkeen lasten yhteinen tekeminen on yksikössä lisääntynyt ja lapset tulevat paremmin toimeen keskenään. Lisäksi havaitsimme positiivisia muutoksia kaverisuhteissa ja rohkeudessa käyttää työkaluja itsenäisesti.Our study objective was to examine if this type of communal project work would be a suitable working method for a child protection unit. We wanted to find out, what kind of effect this type of work has on the children's behavior and everyday life in the unit. We also wanted to find out if the kids would get some tools for their future through this kind of work.
In our theoretical part we deal with the history and the current state of child protection work in Finland as well as the concept of communality and tell about action research. We see communality as the main part of our theoretical part, because we feel it has significant effect in children’s future. We also introduce the child protection unit Pihapuu, where we did our thesis and tell about the methods used in child protection work. Our study was an action research, where the children of the unit were the subjects. The unit's staff helped us in the observation.
According to our study, this type of communal project is a good working method for a child protection unit. The project gives children an opportunity to share their opinions and they get to be a part of the building process. During and after our project the children have started doing various things with each other more often and they get along with each other much better. We also observed positive changes in friend relations and in the courage to use tools independently
