MS-tauti eli Multippeliskleroosi on nuorten aikuisten neurologinen pitkäaikaissairaus. (Romberg 2005, 11.) Tärkeänä pidetään taudin varhaista diagnosointia. MS-tauti etenee hyvin arvaamattomasti ja yksilöllisesti. Yleensä ensioireena on näköhermontulehdus ja tuntohäiriöt. (MS-tauti: Käypä hoito –suositus 2009.) Fatiikki eli uupumus on haasteellisin MS-taudin oireista. Kipu on yksi MS-taudin oireista. Kipu rajoittaa elämää ja vaikuttaa elämänlaatuun heikentävästi. (Hietaharju 2007, 24.) Liikunnan on todettu täydentävän lääkehoidon vaikutuksia. (Vanhalakka 2007, 17.) Sairastuminen tuo tullessaan tunne-elämään ja sosiaalisiin suhteisiin muutoksia (Hietaharju 2009, 31). MS-tautiin sairastutaan yleensä nuorina aikuisina, jolloin perheen perustaminen sekä vanhemmuus on ajankohtaista. MS-tauti ei estä lapsen saamista. (Airas 2005.)
Projektina tuotetut internetsivut työikäisten terveysnettiin pohjautuvat kirjallisuuskatsaukseen.
(Mustonen 2002, 150-159.) Terveysnettiin koottu tieto MS-taudista on luotettavaa ja ajankohtaista. MS-taudin hoitomuodot muuttuvat ja kehittyvät kokoajan. Tämä vaatii sivujen päivittämistä tulevaisuudessa, jotta luotettava ja ajan tasalla oleva tieto olisi aina saatavilla.Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease of young adults. MS causes changes in the nerve cells, causing a broad spectrum signs and symptoms to the whole body. The disease does not spread from one person to the other but the causes of the onset are not fully known. (Romberg 2005, 11.) It is held important to diagnose the disease as soon as possible. Usually the prognosis of MS is very unpredictable and individual for each patient. (MS-tauti: Käypä hoito –recommendations 2009.) Fatigue is the most challenging symptom of the disease, where brain functionality gets tired or slows down and weakens. (Hämäläinen et al. 2007, 4627.) Pain is one of the symptoms of the MS. It is divided into different pain categories according to their symptoms and duration. The pain limits and decreases the quality of one’s life. (Hietaharju 2007, 24.) There is no medication for the disease. The medication treatments are divided into progress slowing treatment and symptomatic treatment. (MS-taudin lääkehoito ja kuntoutus: Käypä hoito – recommendations 2011.) Physical rehabilitation belongs to the comprehensive treatment of the MS. The purpose of the rehabilitation is to create premises for better quality and more independent life. Physical exercise is important for the mental well-being and preservation of physical functionality of the patient. Exercise has been proven to complement the medication treatment. It does not prevent MS but it prevents many other diseases such as osteoporosis, high blood pressure and type two diabetes. (Vanhalakka 2007, 17.) The illness brings changes to the emotions and social relations (Hietaharju 2009, 31). The onset occurs usually in young adults, when establishing a family and parenthood are current topics in one’s life. MS does not prevent from getting a child. (Airas 2005.)
Based on literature review, Internet pages were developed as the project outcome. The Internet pages give information about MS disease and its symptoms, development, medical treatment, different forms of physical rehabilitation and life control. The purpose of the pages is to help to understand MS disease and to help the patient to predict the physical and psychic changes brought by the disease. The Internet pages are meant for MS patients and for anyone interested. The pages can also be used for supporting the guidance of a patient.
The purpose of the internet is to spread information and thereby increase the health awareness. There are principles concerning of the development of health awareness on internet pages, whose purpose is to ensure data reliability and security. (Mustonen 2002, 150-159.) The information collected into Terveysnetti is reliable and up-to-date. The treatment of MS disease changes and develops over time. This requires updating the pages in the future to have reliable and up-to-date information available at all times.Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease of young adults.
