The intrigue of Medusa is her silence. Nobody has ever heard Medusa’s voice. Even though there are some mentions of yells and howls, she doesn’t speak in any scene in which she plays a main role, mostly secondary, in the story of Perseus, the hero. Medusa remains silent in all the events occurring throughout her life. She remains silent in the moment he dies: as she is sleeping. I believe this silence comes from the necessity of fossilizing Medusa, thus depriving her speech, an attribute which could humanize her and, therefore, make her less frightening. Maybe we should give her the words she has been denied and try to understand her monster condition.
