Universidad Libre -- Facultad de ingeniería -- Ingeniería MecánicaThe steels are a carbon-manganese iron alloy that contain other alloys or impurities, these at the same time originate the main characteristics for their application. AISI/SAE 1020 steel constitutes a significant proportion of the steel produced in Colombian steel plants, among which we find Acerías Paz del Rio, Siderúrgica de Caldas S.A, Siderúrgica de Occidente, Diaco S.A, among others. 2 Due to the fact that they are highly used steels in our country, the research aims to subject AISI/SAE 1020 engineering grade steel to a treatment
thermal quenching at temperatures of 800°C, 900°C and 1000°C under controlled conditions and correlate the ultrasonic wave, the microstructure and the hardness of the material after heat treatment.
Taking as reference research projects that show an analysis and characterization of materials by means of the ultrasound technique, a series of results are evidenced that allow determining how the ultrasonic signal of a material changes as it is subjected to some thermal treatment, as is the case of the research carried out by students of the Faculty of
engineering from the Free University
