A Proposal for Emotional Intelligence Development through Dance Movement Therapy

Abstract

Emotional Intelligence (EI) has received a lot of interest after all evidence on its favor is accumulating and research shows that EI can be taught. Through a theoretical review and reflective process, the aim of this paper is to propose a body focused intervention model with examples to teach EI competencies using Dance Movement Therapy (DMT). In particular, Laban Movement Analysis and body awareness elements in which the DMT EI model is supported. The model is organized in four modules, each module is associated with a EI branch, a social-emotional skill, a DMT element, an exploration quality and an aimed outcome
