Have you ever wondered what Internetproviders offer service in your area? Or just how fast yourservice really is? A new website from the Nebraska PublicService Commission can help answer those questionshttps://nebb.broadmap.com/StateMap/How is this site being used?! Test your speed. By testing the speed, you arehelping to verify the data on the map.! Businesses considering a move to an area areusing the maps to identify whether or not theinfrastructure is available.! New and current residents can identify providersthat serve the area.! Residents and businesses can provide feedback onthe broadband service available.Figure 1 (on the next page) is an example of theinformation that can be retrieved from the broadband mapsite.Your Input is ValuedYou can provide input to the Nebraska BroadbandInitiative by completing an online assessment or joining aregional planning team. The online assessments areExtension is a D ivision of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska–Lincolncooperating with the Counties and the U.S. Departm ent of Agriculture.University of Nebraska Extension educational program s abide with the non-discrim ination policies of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the United States Departm ent of Agriculture.organized by community sectors including: CommunityLeadership,  Economic Development,  Tele-communications, Infrastructure, Teleliteracy andAdoption, Advanced Technology Training, Public LibraryServices, Education, Health Care, Local Government andCommunity Services and Agriculture.Figure 1.The education community sector has already hadmore than 360 individuals statewide complete theassessment. Audiences who have taken this assessmentinclude school technology coordinators, technologyteachers, school board members, administrators, collegeand university faculty and staff. Of those responding:! 20.6 percent believe technology is beginning tobe integrated into the curriculum.! 51.4 percent believe information technology isintegrated into much of the curriculum andschool operations.! 25.9 percent see their school as a highlynetworked environment.! In five years, 81 percent want to see their schoolas a highly networked environment.Ideas were also shared on what needs to be in place toimprove the system.
