Journal of South Texas English Studies 4.2 (2013)   iv  Contributors’ Biographies  Robin Carstensen is Visiting Assistant Professor in creative writing at Texas A&M University­Corpus Christi.  Her interests include poetry and poetics, feminist theories, and environmental studies. Recent poetry appears or is forthcoming in The Southern Humanities Review, the Georgetown Review, Terrain.org: a Journal of the Built and Natural Environments, and many others.  Louisa Danielson currently serves an English composition instructor at Indiana University­Purdue University, Fort Wayne. She also works as a freelance writer/photographer, and enjoys exploring new research ideas.  Natalie M. Dorfeld is currently an Assistant Professor of English in the Humanities and Communication Department at the Florida Institute of Technology.  She has taught American literature, creative writing, business writing, public speaking, and ESL classes at Thiel College.  Additionally, she works as a freelance writer for Salem Press and serves as an advisory board member for Wadsworth Publishing and Pearson/Allyn & Bacon Publishing.  Catalina Florina Florescu earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from Purdue University in 2007. She teaches drama and writing at Wagner College. She published three books: Transacting Sites of the Liminal Bodily Spaces (part of top rated universities, such as Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, The Library of Congress, etc.); Inventing Me/ Exercitii de retrait; and Plays: Transitional Object; Three as in Tri­Angle, or the Aftertastes of Life (Kindle edition). Her current collection, Disjointed Perspectives on Motherhood, is currently under contract and slated for release in 2014. She is also the recipient of the Modern International Bibliography Fellowship.  Lamia Khalil Hammad is an Associate Professor of American literature, women's and postcolonial studies. She has published a book on U.S. ethnic women writers, and has published a number of articles on postcolonial, multicultural, and women's studies. Dr. Hammad graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania­ USA, and she is a Fulbright Alumna. Dr. Hammad currently works at Yarmouk University­ Jordan.  Lindsay Illich is an Assistant Professor of English at Curry College in Milton, MA. She received her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Her work has appeared in Gulf Coast, Rio Grande Review, Clare Literary Journal, Hurricane Blues: How Katrina and Rita Ravaged A Nation, and Improbable Worlds: An Anthology of Texas and Louisiana Poets. She would like to thank M. Jimmie Killingsworth, C. Jan Swearingen, and Marian Eide for their comments and feedback in the development of this article. Also, thanks to George Plimpton, for initiating the Paris Review interviews and his dedication to cultivating a lively conversation about the craft and culture of writing.  Elizabeth Johnston teaches writing, literature, and gender studies at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.  Her poems have appeared or will appear in The Muse: An International Journal of Poetry, Organs of Vision and Sense, Trivia: Voices of Feminism, B (a collection of poetry inspired by Barbie), Yellow Medicine Review, the anthology Veils, Halos and Shackles: International Poems on the Abuse and Oppression of Women. Her poems tend to reflect her experiences as both mother and feminist scholar. When she is not grading papers, writing poetry, helping her daughters with Journal of South Texas English Studies 4.2 (2013)   v  their homework, or hiking in the Adirondacks with her partner, Brian, she facilitates writing workshops for breast cancer survivors at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester and for survivors of sexual assault within the Rochester community.  Dennis H. Lee’s poetry has appeared in antiTHESIS, Journal of New Jersey Poets, New Purlieu Review, qarrtsiluni, RATTLE: Poetry for the 21st Century, subTerrain, and other journals.  Donna J. Gelagotis Lee’s book, On the Altar of Greece, winner of the Gival Press Poetry Award, received a 2007 Eric Hoffer Book Award: Notable for Art Category and was nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize and other awards. Her poetry has appeared in numerous literary and scholarly journals. Her website is www.donnajgelagotislee.com  Laura Linker is Assistant Professor of English at High Point University. She specializes in Restoration and eighteenth­century British literature and culture and is the author of Dangerous Women, Libertine Epicures, and the Rise of Sensibility, 1670­1730.  She teaches courses on British literature, women writers, and fairy tales. Her current projects consider natural philosophy and late seventeenth­century medical theories in literary depictions of hysteria. Her website is lauraleighlinker.wordpress.com.  Monica Reyes recently received her M.A. degree in English from The University of Texas at Brownsville. Her thesis work reinterprets the significance of diary literature of women from the American frontier era and especially elucidates how the everyday domestic life of pioneer women helped bridge cultural divides with native women. Reyes has taught English and Reading at public schools before taking a break to start her family with her husband and take on her graduate work. She plans to continue studying and writing about travel literature (especially during times of mass movement across national lines), working as an instructor in higher education, and possibly earning her PhD in English. Her greatest joy is not so lofty, however; she revels in reading her preschool daughters their favorite books during long afternoons.  Craig Smith received his Ph.D. in English literature from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.  Most recently, he has worked as an Adjunct Professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, where he taught courses in postcolonial literatures.  He has published other articles on J.M. Coetzee in Safundi: The Journal of South African and American Studies and in an upcoming issue of English Studies in Africa and his research interests, beyond the fiction of J.M. Coetzee, include Holocaust studies and the literatures of postcolonial disillusionment.  Karina Stiles­Cox is a full-time lecturer currently teaching Composition I and II and World Literature.  She holds a Master’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a Master’s degree in Spanish from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  Her previous research has focused on the child in Victorian Literature, the treatment of motherhood and mothers in American Realism, the marginalization of the Other in Don Quijote, and Simone de Beauvoir’s influence on the works of Rosario Castellanos and Angeles Mastretta. Whenever possible, she takes her work to the beach.  Journal of South Texas English Studies 4.2 (2013)   vi  Jerome Teelucksingh is a lecturer at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. I have published 3 collections of plays­ Builders of the Caribbean, Time for Bacchanal  and Fete, Marriage and Murder. My poems have been published in anthologies such as Meanderings: A Collection of Poetic Verse and have appeared in the Trinidad and Tobago Review, Taj Mahal Review, In Search of Fatherhood, Caribbean Voice, and Diálogos. I have published 2 collections of poems entitled­ A Stroll Through History and Memories and Musings. My two recent novels are Back of the Net and Ordinary People in a Normal Society.  Marcy Tucker is an Assistant Professor of English at Texas A&M University­Kingsville, where she specializes in Rhetoric and Composition.  Her research focuses on the intersections of social class and language, especially regarding working­class and first­generation college students and faculty.  Elizabeth Gill Vidaurri teaches composition for UT Brownsville. After earning an MA in English from Pan American University at Edinburg, she focused her post­secondary teaching career on the first year writing courses yet “managed to wrangle a few honors seminars and undergraduate courses in creative writing.” In 2006, prodded by a colleague who enjoyed her short stories, she applied to the Indiana University Writers’ Conference and was chosen to participate in the IUWC’s Fiction Workshop led by author Amy Bloom. Vidaurri often explains to her students that her interest in writing came from her parents, former journalists who met while covering a quinceañera. “Of course, my writers generally want to hear that story, but I always lead them back to how my parents’ admiration of good writing made me become a lifelong student of writing.”
