 Acta entomologica serbica, 2012, 17(1/2): 175-176  In memoriam      DR. ZORAN GRADOJEVIĆ  (1925 – 2012)   Dr. Zoran Gradojević was born on  May 28th, 1925 in Belgrade and died on Sunday, November 11th, 2012 in Belgrade.   Zoran attended First Male Gymnasium in Belgrade and completed his studies there in 1943. He took part in the Second World War, after which he attended the Art Academy in Belgrade in the class of Prof. Milo Milunović. From 1947-1951 he studied Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Belgrade; upon graduation in 1951 he became an Assistant in the Entomological Department, Institute of Ecology and 176 Ž. TOMANOVIĆ  Biogeography, Serbian Academy of Science and Art, while at the same time teaching General Entomology at the Faculty of Science, Belgrade. In 1955 and 1956 he was supported by an FAO scholarship in field research on the Moroccan locust in Cyprus. He later continued his research on locust development and taxonomy of Acrididae at the Anti Locust Research Center and in the British Museum of Natural History in London.  His fields of research were the ecology and population dynamics of pest insects, especially the  Moroccan locust in Montenegro from 1956-1965, and coenotic and succession of insects in sandy, steppe, wetlands and forest ecosystems in Serbia. In 1963 he defended his PhD thesis entitled: “Arthropods of steppe community Deliblato sand and their succession“ under the supervision of  Prof. Dr. Siniša Stanković. He published over 40 scientific papers in national and international journals, and invited contributions from national and international meetings. Zoran supervised several master and PhD theses. During his University career, as Associate Researcher and Assistant Professor he taught the following courses with great success: “Ecological succession“, “Biological methods for pest insect control“, “Entomology“, and “Ecology“. He was employed at the Institute of Biological Sciences “Siniša Stanković“ in the department for animal ecology, taxonomy and biogeography and was retained as Associate Researcher in 1989. His extensive insect collection which included many valuable and endemic species was deposited in the Belgrade Natural History Museum.   In 1995 Zoran was awarded for his contributions to ecological education by the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and again in 1996 by the Serbian Ecological Society. He was a member of the Entomological Society of Serbia and a member of the Editorial Board of our journal, Acta Entomologica Serbica. In 2008, Zoran was awarded by the Entomological Society of Serbia for promoting and contributing to entomological science in Serbia.   Zoran was a very well-educated scientist with broad knowledge of art and culture as well. He was an inspiration for younger entomologists and helped us in our careers.
