ABSTRACT: Carolina Maria de Jesus, a Brazilian female black writer ofthe late 1950s, narrates in her diaries her harsh life as a slum-dweller. Inthe present work we aim to analyze the narrative elements through whichthe author constructs her subjectivity, at the same time revealing themarginalizing socio-political scenario of Brazil.
