Editorial cartoonscomprise one collection, dance videos the other.Indexing for editorial cartoons, as well as for dance videos, has typically overlooked the contentof the work. Attempting to index the content or meaning of the images is difficult for both typesof collections, because it requires interpretation of meaning on the part of the indexer. Facetedclassification schemes can assist the indexer in defming the parameters of the information thatneeds to be captured.Editorial cartoons reflect the nation's culture and history at a specific moment in time. They alsoprovide invaluable insight into the mood of the country as well as illustrate debates andcontroversies over the years. Thus, it is unfortunate that most editorial cartoons are neverindexed - especially by the newspapers and magazines in which they appear.
