An investigation of Arabic-Malay translation: problems and issues

Abstract

The aim of this research paper is to look at the various issues that may arise with Arabic translations and to find possible solutions. The translation is a delicate and subtle process, and some important issues need to be taken into account. However, translation gets more difficult from Malay to the Arabic language. Consequently, a translator must have the critical linguistic knowledge and skills in undertaking both the surface and underlying relations of language. Translation includes, among other things, the transfer and transformation of different linguistic characteristics from one language to another. In terms of vocabulary, grammar, sound, style, and usage, there is a wide variety of translations between Arabic and Malay. This paper thus focuses on the challenges of translating Arabic texts in terms of types of readership, text, context, and culture
