In this paper we present the analysis of the incoming
freshmen’s achievements at entrance examinations, which
were held on Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade,
in the period from 1998 to 2000. Within these tests, the tasks
on levels of understanding and application were used to evaluate student’s knowledge of general, inorganic and organic
chemistry.
The double benefit may result from this analysis. On
one side, it gives survey of freshmen chemistry student abilities and prospective problems in acquiring knowledge at
the university level, while, on the other, it serves as a
feed-back in order toimprove efficiency of highschool chemistry courses
