H A V R A N E K I n s t i t u t f o r S y s t e m a t i c Z o o l o g y of t h e U n i v e r s i t y , S z e g e d , H u n g a r y Dur ing the research of the r iver T i sza mammalogica l invest igat ions were pe r fo rmed by the a u t h o r on the f lood p la ins of the Lower-Tisza , so a m o n g others a t the 197 r ive r -km in t h e reservat ion named Saser. Col lect ings were p e r f o r m e d on 1 5 — 2 0 Aug. , 1960. T h e hole list of the m a m m a l s collected will be enumera te on an o ther place. H e r e a re published only the specimens collected on 17. Aug. , which succeeded to catch a male specimen of Microtus oeconomus mehelyi. This d a y the t r aps were set out on the most humid p a r t of the area , next to the b a c k w a t e r . O n this a rea the fo l lowing species were col lected: T h e dominan t s Talpa europaea and Apodemus sylvaticus, the subdominan t s Micro-mys minutus pratensis and Sorex araneus, and rares Sorex minutus and Microtus oeconomus mehelyi. Measures of the l a t t e r are the fo l lowings : head + t r u n k = 118 m m = 46 m m h ind- foo t = 20 m m ear = 1 1 m m (See also Figs. 2. a n d . 3.) Microtus oeconomus mehelyi was k n o w n till now on the fo l lowing places in the K a r p a t - b a s i n : Somor j a and Bos in Czecho-SIovakia , Neusiedel in Eas t -Austr ia , R a j k a in W e s t - H u n g a r y , F o n y o d and Balatonle l le at the lake Bala ton and Agasegyhaza in the m i d d l e of the H u n g a r i a n A l f o l d . T h e new place of occurence lies about 80 k m dis tance to t h e east f r o m the next k n o w n occurence (Agasegyhaza) . (Fig. 1.) T h e ecological circumstances in the new-p lace a re corresponding to the o ther k n o w n b io tops of the species. T h e holes o f Microtus oeconomus mehelyi a re d i f f e r e n t f r o m them of the o ther l i t t le mammals . T h e holes described by M E H E L Y were observed also by the a u t h o r in Saser. T h e specimen collected was ca thed in on of these holes w i th a mouse t rap of Hohenhe im. T h e de te rmina t ion was p e r f o r m e d wi th the aid of the descr ipt ions of M E H E L Y ( 3 ) , E H I K ( 1 ) , a n d S Z U N Y O G H Y ( 4 ) . 86 L. H A V R A N E K F i g . 1.
